Remember those old ads that used to say we have a combined 150 years of experience. Like that matters in a weird way. Well these two have over 100 if you want to apply that twisted way of looking at it.

Doc and Merle Watson are legends in the foothills and Mountains of The Carolinas. As a young guitar player, the first time I heard them I literally was so excited I left the show early! Went home and grabbed my guitar to try to copy their licks. Didn’t even mind missing the last part of the show becasue it was more than I could take in. That’s inspiration!

The guitar and Acoustic world was really knocked down when news of Merles’s death came out. And such a tragic frustrating story. He was mowing on a tractor and the steep incline was unbalanced causing the tractor to pin him under. Just so difficult. And Doc was never really the same after that.

Anyway- MerleFest does a great job honoring them both.
